UA CBT (Computer-based Training) offers FREE computer training via the Web to all UA NetID holders (instructors, students, employees).

Currently the UA has a contract with the Virtual Training Center to provide access to over 240 tutorials, covering a broad range of topics and applications, including:

  • business applications Microsoft Word 2007,Visio 2007, PowerPoint, Excel, Project
  • programming — C ++, Cold Fusion, Visual Basic for Access
  • databases — mySQL, FileMaker,FileMaker Pro 8, Oracle 9i:SQL
  • operating systems — A + certification, Mac OS X, Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger,Windows Vista, Windows 2000/XP, UNIX
  • internet & Web design Dreamweaver 8, HTML 4, FrontPage, Flash
  • graphics & page layout — Illustrator, Photoshop, FreeHand
  • animation & 3D — AutoCAD 2006, Bryce 5
  • multimedia & video Garageband 3, After Effects, Premiere, iMovie, Final Cut Pro, Director

Most tutorials have between five and fifteen hours of content. Each tutorial is divided into lessons from 2-10 minutes long on average. The tutorials are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Each lesson is a QuickTime movie (.mov file) that opens in a new browser window. Learners may open and work in a software application while watching the lesson and may stop, start, rewind, and review each lesson as often as desired.

System Requirements:

  • Windows or Mac OS
  • QuickTime is required
  • A fast Internet connection (DSL, cable, T1) is highly recommended.
  • Internet Explorer is recommended

Certification: The VTC tutorials do not provide assessment or testing functions. Tutorials should be considered as preparatory content for a certification exam. More about certification

Reports: Each user may view and print a report of the lessons that s/he has viewed.

CDs: CDs of tutorials may be purchased directly from VTC. UA NetID holders are eligible for a 50% discount.
